Court: Mental health evaluation requested for man accused of Bent Creek runner attack

A judge on Monday granted a request from prosecutors to have a separate mental health evaluation performed on a man charged with attacking a runner in the Bent Creek area earlier this year. The state's motion came during a routine hearing, with the district attorney arguing that an independent psychiatric assessment was necessary to determine the defendant's competency to stand trial.

The suspect, whose name has not been released due to ongoing proceedings, was arrested in February after a female runner reported being assaulted on a popular trail.
