Dewey's Pizza hosts 5K to raise dough for children's hospitals, mental health

Cincinnati-based pizza chain Dewey's Pizza brought out runners and dough lovers alike this weekend for its annual Run to Raise Dough 5K, a community event that combines fitness with fundraising for children's hospitals and mental health initiatives. The race, held Saturday morning at the company's original Oakley location, drew several hundred participants who braved mild fall weather to support the cause.

Proceeds from the event will be split between Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and local mental health wellness programs, continuing a tradition that has now raised over $200,000 since the race began in 2016. Dewey's co-founder Andreas Karsten said the run started as a small gathering of staff and regulars but has grown into a meaningful community tradition. "We wanted to do something that gave back beyond just writing a check," he said. "Getting people moving, bringing families together, and knowing the money goes directly to kids who need help - that's what keeps us going."

Participants received a finisher medal shaped like a pizza slice, and post-race refreshments included Dewey's signature salads and a limited-edition "Runner's Reward" pizza topped with spinach, roasted garlic, and a light olive oil drizzle. The event also featured a kids' half-mile dash, a silent auction with items from local businesses, and a raffle for a year of free pizza.

Organizers noted that mental health has become an increasing focus in recent years, with a portion of funds earmarked for school-based counseling services. "Children's hospitals do incredible work, but we also see the need for early intervention," said race director Megan Walsh. "This year's donations will help expand access to therapists in under-served neighborhoods."

The 5K is part of a broader push by the company to support youth wellness, including a monthly "Pizza for a Purpose" night where a share of sales goes to local nonprofits. The next Run to Raise Dough is already scheduled for the first Saturday of next October, with early registration discounts available starting in January.
