The Exton Mall is closing its doors to the public this week, with the owner citing the building's deteriorating condition as the primary reason for the shutdown. The closure takes effect on Tuesday, June 30, and will see the majority of the shopping center go dark. However, not every tenant is leaving. Key anchors Boscov's department store and Main Line Health will continue to operate as usual, along with Round 1, the entertainment and bowling venue. These businesses have their own separate entrances and are not dependent on the main mall concourse to serve customers.
The property owner explained that the building requires significant rehabilitation, making it unsafe or impractical to keep the common areas open. The decision marks the end of an era for the retail hub, which has seen a steady decline in foot traffic over recent years, a trend accelerated by the shift to online shopping. While the mall itself will be closed indefinitely, the owner has not announced any immediate plans for demolition or redevelopment. For now, shoppers can still visit the standalone stores and services that remain accessible from the parking lot, but the days of browsing the indoor corridors are over.
