Fleming Island Man Arrested on Child Abuse Material Charges

A 36-year-old Fleming Island man was arrested Tuesday on seven counts of knowingly possessing and/or intentionally viewing child sexual abuse material, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect had been employed as a behavioral health assistant at Middleburg High School. Authorities confirmed the arrest followed an investigation into the possession and viewing of illegal material involving minors.

Deputies took the man into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Clay County jail while awaiting a first appearance before a judge. The sheriff's office did not release additional details about how the investigation began or whether any students were involved.

School district officials said they are cooperating fully with law enforcement. A spokesperson stated that the employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. The district declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.

The charges against the man are felonies. Each count carries the potential for significant prison time if convicted. Court records do not yet list an attorney representing him.
