Myomo, a pioneer in wearable medical robotics, has announced a landmark network participation agreement with Elevance Health, marking a significant expansion in patient access to its innovative technology. This multi-state contract represents the company's first in a series of anticipated agreements with major national payers.
The agreement covers Elevance Health's affiliated Commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid health plans, including those under the Anthem brand. This broad inclusion is expected to make Myomo's MyoPro® devices more accessible to a wide range of patients across the United States. The MyoPro is a powered brace that uses non-invasive sensors to detect faint electrical signals from a user's muscles, enabling individuals with neurological disorders or upper-limb paralysis to regain function for daily activities.
This contract is a pivotal step for Myomo, as it directly addresses a primary barrier to adoption: insurance coverage. By securing in-network status with a leading health insurer like Elevance Health, the company anticipates removing significant financial hurdles for patients prescribed the MyoPro. The move is expected to drive increased utilization and provide a sustainable reimbursement pathway for the technology, which is designed to improve independence and quality of life for those with conditions like stroke, brachial plexus injury, and ALS. The agreements are slated to become effective in the coming months, paving the way for broader clinical adoption.
