New Adolescent Psychiatric Facility Opens in Hendersonville to Address Regional Shortage

A new psychiatric hospital has opened in Hendersonville with the goal of filling a critical gap in mental health care for teenagers across the region. The facility, known as the Adolescent Behavioral Health Center, is part of Pardee UNC Health Care and brings 23 inpatient beds dedicated to young people between the ages of 13 and 17.

The center was created in response to a growing need for specialized psychiatric services for adolescents. Before this opening, families in the area often had to travel long distances to find appropriate care for teenagers facing acute mental health crises. That shortage left many young patients waiting in emergency rooms or being sent to facilities far from home, which added stress to an already difficult situation.

Staff at the new center will provide around the clock care for conditions such as severe depression, anxiety, self harm and other behavioral health issues. The program combines medical treatment with therapy and family support, aiming to stabilize patients and connect them with ongoing care after discharge.

Local health officials say the opening represents a significant step forward for the region.
