Chris Deacon says America's employers must stop acting helpless in the face of health care industry profiteering. She would know. Deacon spent years inside the system, first as a corporate insider, then as a whistleblower who exposed how a major health insurance company used automated algorithms to deny care to patients. Her case became a national flashpoint, revealing how profit motives can override medical necessity.
But Deacon didn't stop with the insurance giant. She also took on a powerful political machine that she says protected the company's interests. Now, she is turning her attention to the broader role employers play in the health care crisis. Too many companies, she argues, claim they have no power to push back against rising premiums and denied claims. That is a cop-out.
Deacon points out that employers are the ones who choose which insurance plans to offer their workers. They negotiate contracts. They can demand transparency. Instead, many simply pass rising costs to employees or accept the status quo. She wants to change that mindset. Her message is blunt: employers have leverage they refuse to use. If they stopped acting like bystanders, the entire industry would have to change. Her fight is far from over.
