NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens wrapped up its Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations with a large-scale Community Health Fair on September 30. The event served as the centerpiece of the hospital's month-long series of activities honoring the culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the borough.
The health fair brought together medical staff, community organizations, and local residents for a day focused on preventive care and wellness education. Attendees had access to free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, glucose testing, and vision exams. Hospital professionals were on hand to answer questions about chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma, which disproportionately affect Hispanic populations.
In addition to clinical services, the event featured informational booths on nutrition, mental health support, and insurance enrollment. Bilingual staff members ensured that language was not a barrier for participants seeking guidance. Community partners also provided resources on housing, food assistance, and childcare.
Organizers said the fair reflected the hospital's ongoing commitment to addressing health disparities and building trust with the communities it serves. By combining cultural celebration with practical health services, the event aimed to encourage regular checkups and early intervention.
Hospital leaders noted that Hispanic Heritage Month is not only a time for recognition but also an opportunity to strengthen outreach. Plans are already underway for similar initiatives in the coming months.
