Bristol Regional Medical Center, Holston Valley Medical Center and Johnson City Medical Center have received national awards from the American Heart Association recognizing their performance in stroke treatment.
The three Ballad Health facilities were honored for meeting rigorous standards in rapid diagnosis, timely intervention and coordinated care for patients who suffer strokes. The recognition reflects sustained efforts by clinical teams to follow proven protocols that can sharply reduce disability and save lives when every minute matters.
Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States. Hospitals that earn these awards must demonstrate consistent adherence to guidelines covering emergency response, imaging, medication delivery and follow-up care. Staff at the three campuses have worked to streamline communication between emergency departments, neurology specialists and rehabilitation teams so patients move quickly from arrival to treatment.
Leaders at the health system said the awards belong to physicians, nurses, technicians and support staff who carry out stroke protocols around the clock. They noted that the recognition also signals to residents across the region that high-quality stroke care is available close to home, reducing the need for long transfers during emergencies.
The hospitals plan to build on the achievement by continuing staff training and reviewing performance data. Officials encouraged the public to learn the warning signs of stroke and to call emergency services immediately if symptoms appear, since fast action remains the most important factor in recovery.
