Health officials in Oregon have confirmed a new potential public exposure to measles, this time centered on a building at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. The announcement marks the latest in a series of exposure warnings across the Portland metropolitan area as public health teams work to contain the highly contagious virus.
The exposure is linked to a confirmed measles case and occurred at the college's Library Building. Officials have identified specific times and dates when others may have been exposed and are urging anyone who was in the building during those windows to take immediate action. Measles symptoms can appear 7 to 21 days after exposure and typically begin with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a distinctive rash a few days later.
The health authority is advising potentially exposed individuals to review their vaccination status. Those who have not received the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine are at highest risk. Unvaccinated individuals who were at the location are instructed to contact a healthcare provider or the local health department before visiting any medical facility to prevent further spread. Health officials continue to emphasize that vaccination remains the most effective protection against measles.
