MultiCare and Samaritan Health Services Finalize Merger

Samaritan Health Services has officially joined MultiCare after more than a year of planning, bringing together two health systems that serve patients across the Pacific Northwest. The completion of the merger marks a significant shift in the regional health care landscape and sets the stage for substantial new investment in facilities, services, and staff.

As part of the agreement, MultiCare has pledged to invest $700 million into the system. The funding is expected to support infrastructure improvements, expand access to care, and strengthen operations across Samaritan's hospitals and clinics. Leaders from both organizations described the move as a long-term commitment to the communities they serve, with an emphasis on keeping care local while drawing on the resources of a larger network.

The planning process took more than a year, involving regulatory review and extensive coordination between the two organizations. Executives said the combined system will allow for greater efficiency in purchasing, technology, and clinical programs, while preserving the local identity and community focus that Samaritan has built over decades.

Patients should see continuity in their care during the transition. Both organizations said existing appointments, providers, and insurance relationships will remain in place as the integration moves forward. Community leaders welcomed the investment pledge, noting that health care systems in the region have faced mounting financial pressure and workforce challenges in recent years.

The merger is one of the larger health care combinations in the region in recent memory, and its effects will be watched closely by employers, insurers, and residents who depend on the system for care.
