A partnership between Seton Hall University and Clifton High School is giving local students a real look at life in the medical field. The ACE Health program, which stands for Allied Health Careers Exploration, provides hands-on learning and direct mentorship to help teenagers figure out if a health career is right for them.
For one Clifton High senior, the program turned a vague interest into a clear goal. Through workshops, hospital visits, and talks with working professionals, she gained the confidence to apply to nursing school. She is now on track to become a nursing student, a path she says she might not have found without the program's guidance.
ACE Health is not just about lectures. Students get to practice basic clinical skills, tour medical facilities, and hear from nurses, doctors, and technicians about the daily realities of their jobs. The program also focuses on the academic requirements needed for college health programs, helping students plan their high school courses accordingly.
Seton Hall faculty and current health sciences students lead the sessions, offering a bridge between high school and university-level study. Organizers say the goal is to address the growing demand for healthcare workers by sparking interest early. For the students involved, it is a chance to see if their passion for helping others can become a real career.
